Signs of Covid
In a culture already inundated by visual information, Covid 19 signage has permeated society to a degree that an advertising company could only dream of.
Sit here, stand here, wear a mask, get tested, get vaccinated, the signage controls our activities and indeed our lives and in most cases the public willingly comply (understandably) with these silent symbols of authoritarianism.
However, the unprecedented rush (panic?) to install the signage has resulted in some very unusual, sometime humorous and even bizarre juxtapositions of signs.
These images explore this temporary visual landscape and contextualise it within society, because it is transitory. Eventually these symbols of Covid will disappear as quickly as they appeared, and we will forget how controlling some printed pieces of card and plastic were.
The image taken at Victoria Gardens in March 2022 brings this project to an end.
